When you level up it's best to spend at least 2-3 of the experience points you're rewarded on Energy, especially in the beginning. More energy allows you to complete more or higher energy jobs which turn into more experience points. Don't worry so much about strength because there will always be someone weaker than you to attack and you don't get as much experience from fighting. Also, use your energy packs wisely. You only get one every 24 hours so make sure you're so low on energy you can't do any jobs before giving yourself a boost.

When fighting, don't attack the same player too many times. Many players love the hitlist and if you attack someone too many times in a row you run the risk of being hitlisted. When you die you lose experience (usually around 6 points) so it can set you back considerably if you're hitlisted repeatedly.

Another thing you want to do is fight until injured before exiting the game. If you leave the game when you're still healthy you can still get attacked offline. However, if you're injured in a fight and sign off no one can attack you until you log in again. Mafia Wars Exposed will teach you more
