Need help choose where to place your stat points when you level? These tips will guide you to a stronger character:
The Importance of Stats
At lower levels, your stats are critical. They are a major determining
factor in fights. Boss size is not critical, so variations in stats
often determines victory. Raising your energy levels so you can pull
higher level jobs is also key.
As
you progress in level, stats rapidly diminish in importance. Mob size
takes over from stats in determining fights. The number of levels
between gaining new jobs also increases, meaning you don't have to
invest a huge amount in energy.
At higher levels, stats
once again take center stage. Mobsters will get to a point where they
max out there mob size, and are fighting mobster who have done the
same. You also need tremendous amounts of money and experience, so jobs
can become important to some. Finally, the variations between stats
becomes much more pronounced, so its important to have a plan from the
beginning to maximize your character effectiveness.
Choose Your Path
You must decide whether you primarily want to be a fighter, to level as
fast as possible, or make (and keep) money. The sooner you decide, the
sooner you can begin setting up your stats accordingly.
If you primarily want to be a fighter, invest heavily in attack.
You'll also want to spend some points on health, and eventually add
more stamina.
If you primarily want to make money, invest heavily in defense.
You'll also want to spend some points on energy, and some on health.
If you want to make level fast, invest heavily in energy and attack.
Starting Out
This pretty much applies to all styles of play. Under level 10, you
will want to put as many points as possible into energy. All characters
will rely heavily on jobs to level early on, so make sure you have
enough energy to pull all types.
Once you get your energy up to about 20, then start branching out
into the areas you will need. Tycoons should invest in defense,
bulletproof characters should start investing in attack, and insomniacs
should keep investing in energy and start putting some in attack.
Defense
Adding Points to defense is key if you have a lot to lose. This applies
primarily to wealth property owners, where you are gaining a lot of
income while you are offline, and are susceptible to attack.
Defense does two things. First, it increases your chances of winning
against an attacker. More importantly for those with lots of money, a
high defense limits or completely eliminates the amount of money an
attacker will get from you if they succeed. If an attacker can beat you
but can't steal any money, they will move on.
Some fighters also put stats in defense, but I'm undecided if it's
wise to do so. It will help you defend against retribution attacks, but
most fighters mark easy prey that probably don't have the ability to
defeat them anyway. If you're a fighter, invest sparingly.
Attack
The key stat for those who want to make their living fighting. Fighting
increase your ability to win attacks, and increases the booty you haul
in. This is also an important stat for those who want to level fast. To
maximize the rate your character gains levels, you will need to pull
every job you can, AND fight (and win) as much as you can every playing
session.
Energy Critical
stat for those who want to pull lots of jobs. Energy, even for
insomniacs, regenerates slowly so almost all classes should invest some
points in extra energy.
Health I'm mixed
on the value of adding a lot of health, at least at lower levels. It is
handy to have if you are fighting often, but getting healed in the
hospital doesn't really cost that much. It will keep you from getting
hospitalized from multiple attacks, but not much else. Having a lot of
health also won't protect you from hits - it will just take more
attacks to finish the job. This may change as you level your character,
but starting out don't invest more than a few points in health.
Stamina
This is a wasted stat for lower level players. Stamina regenerates fast
for all characters. It also costs 2 stat points to get 1 point of
stamina. Even if you are a fighter, I wouldn't bother putting more than
a point in it until you get above level 30.
One place stamina IS critical is when you want to
pull a lot of hits. You will need every once of stamina, and then some,
to make your living pulling hits. So don't waste much on it initially,
but be aware that at some point you may want to invest in it more
heavily.
A good tactic to use during your playing
session is to use up all your attacks first, then do any jobs or
banking you have to do. Heal up, and by this time, you will have
regenerated most, if not all, your stamina. Then launch another round
of attacks before logging off. This basically gives you 5-6 attacks per
playing session, even if you only have 3 stamina.
Flexible Strategy
Just because you start out as a fighter stat-wise doesn't mean you have
to or should remain that way. I have respeced my character continually
as I've risen in level, depending upon my current needs. Here are some
examples:
- At
lower levels, I hardly had any mob members, so I invested heavily in
defense. Also, as an insomniac, I wanted to hold onto what little money
I had, so defense was critical up to level 20.
- Between levels 40-60, I dumped tons of points into energy so I
could do more jobs to help me level faster, and get the special weapons
now available in Mob Wars (like the tactical shotgun).
- Around level 65, my mob size was smaller than most of my opponents,
so I again invested heavily in defense while frantically recruiting mob
members.
- Around level 85, my mob size was maxed out, so I went full throttle
into attack points so I could attack and defeat mobsters who are also
maxed out, and to start making money pulley hits.
