"A man in debt is so far a slave."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
One area that is often overlooked is reducing your expenses. Here are a couple of tips:
Stockpile Expense Management
Only keep the items in your stockpile you absolutely need to 1) do
jobs, and 2) arm your mob. Remember, your mobsters can only carry one
weapon, drive one vehichle, and wear one peice of armor. So having a
mob of 30 people yet having 200 grenade launchers does you no good. As
you become richer, this becomes much less of a factor, but it is HUGE
when you are starting out.
Free Items
As you progress and pull jobs, certain jobs will have the chance to
drop "special weapons". These weapons are generally more powerful than
similiar level weapons you can purchase, but best of all, they drop for
free and require NO UPKEEP! So collect as many of these special weapons
as you can, and it will limit the number of arms you will need to
purchase and maintain.
Hits - Are they worth it?
This one is a bit subjective, but don't let emotion get the better of
you in this game. Hits can be very expensive, buying hits on everyone
who attacks you once will drive you right into backruptcy. Pick your
hits carefully, check your ego at the door, and everything will work
out for you in the long run.
Don't Bank at Higher Levels
As you progress in level and gain wealth, the money which can be stolen
from you during attacks greatly dimensions, and the amount the bank
takes to launder and protect your money increases. After about level 30
it really isn't worth putting all your money in the bank. We will
expand on this point in the next section on the bank.
